Do you want to avoid passing your dental anxiety on to your child? If so, there are things you can do to achieve that goal! In order to help your child feel calm and comfortable in the dental chair, our Awesome Smiles Dental Center team recommends that you do the following things:
-When you come into Awesome Smiles Dental Center for a checkup, bring your child with you. This will help them get used to our office and dental team.
-Try not to use negative words when going to the dentist. The words to avoid are “hurt,” “needle,” “pain,” etc.
-Instead of playing “house” at home, play “dentist.” This will familiarize your child with a dental visit.
-Talk to your dentist, Dr. Tontra Lowe, and ask them how they explains dental treatments to children. The warm, comforting words will help you explain treatments to your child.
-When your child asks you questions about dental appointments and treatments, answer them honestly and sensitively.
Using these tips and doing these things will help your child enjoy visiting their dentist in Gainesville, Virginia.
