Better Smiles Begin With Teething Treatments

Posted .

One of the biggest risks that children face in regard to the oral health care is due to teething. Although it often does not have any lasting effects, it can cause severe pain and discomfort for a child. Teething occurs when teeth slowly erupt above the gum line and become visible in the mouth. This process can be painful, but there are several treatments available to help.

Teething often arises when any teeth are breaking above the gum line. Several symptoms begin to arise with a baby including minor irritability, fussiness, difficulty sleeping and a loss of appetite. If you notice any of these changes with your child, bring them in to see their dentist. However, if they have suffered from diarrhea, rashes or fever during teething, contact their dentist immediately.

Several options are available to help provide care for a child that is teething. Teething tools can be used to help alleviate pain that may be present. This can include the use of a gauze pad, teething rings, clean fingers or a small spoon. Never use teething tablets on children under two years of age. Furthermore, avoid using pain relievers for children and infants as well. Always be sure to contact your dentist for recommended products.

Make sure to take diligent care of your child’s smile, so it can last for decades.
