Teeth with minor alignment issues can leave you feeling self-conscious about your smile, and wanting to explore your dental realignment options. One method that continues to grow in popularity with adults that have minor alignment issues is to have their teeth adjusted using Invisalign. The clear, durable plastic aligners make it hard for the casual observer to even notice.
At the initial consultation your Awesome Smiles Dental Center orthodontist will examine your mouth. This might also include taking some X-rays. This provides an understanding of the structure of your mouth while also helping to clearly define your alignment goals. Then an impression is taken of your teeth, which is sent to the Invisalign laboratory where a series of aligner trays will be produced.
You will need to wear the Invisalign for 20 to 22 hours each day. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually stretch the periodontal ligaments anchoring your teeth, to move them a little bit closer to your ideal smile.
Every two weeks you will switch to another set of aligners that are tuned a little closer to your alignment goals. The number of aligners needed will vary. Most people meet their alignment goals in the course of three or four Invisalign trays.
You can drink normally while wearing Invisalign, but you will need to remove them before eating. Avoid smoking or chewing gum while the aligners are in your mouth. When you are not wearing invisalign you should keep the aligners in the case provided.
